The Fertility Institute of the Mid-South, Memphis, Tennessee, is a 501 (c) 3 foundation that sponsors clinical research, laboratory research and education in fertility, reproductive endocrinology and reproductive surgery. 

Texts and monographs have included Intra-Abdominal Laser Surgery in 1986; Laparoscopic Appearance of Endometriosis in 1988; Laparoscopic Appearance of Endometriosis, Color Atlas in 1990; and Laparoscopic Appearance of Endometriosis, Lecture Supplement in 1991.    These were published by the Resurge Press, the  publications division of The Fertility Institute of the Mid-South.  Research publications are on the Publications page.

Investigations and educational activities have been funded at the Harlow Primate Center in Wisconsin, the University of Tennessee Health Science Center,  the University of Florida, Vanderbilt University, Dartmouth University and Yale University.

Dr. Dan Martin

Dan C. Martin, M.D. is the president of the Fertility Institute.  He was trained in gynecology, infertility, reproductive surgery and reproductive endocrinology and is in practice at UT Medical Group, Inc. in Memphis, Tennessee.  He is a Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center.  A native of St. Louis and Atlanta, Dr. Martin received his B.S. degree in physics in 1968 and his medical degree in 1972 from Emory University in Atlanta.  He served his internship and residency in Gynecology and Obstetric and a year of fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.  Prior to moving to Memphis in 1977, he was Divisional Director of Medical Education at Johns Hopkins.  Dr. Martin became a charter member of the Society of Reproductive Surgeons in 1984.  He has been president of both the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists and the Gynecologic Surgery Society.   A complete CV can be downloaded at Downloads.

His practice in infertility, tubal reversal, fertility preservation, reproductive surgery and gynecology is located in Germantown, a suburb of Memphis, Tennessee.

Reproductive Surgery

Reproductive surgery includes a wide range of operations designed for different purposes.  Most of these operations plan to save the uterus, tubes and ovaries.  Fertility Surgery such as Tubal Ligation Reversal increase fertility while others operations such as Tubal Ligation decrease fertility.
